ice oasis

I hear the Indigenous people of Alaska have many words for snow. After witnessing the first snow of the season here in Alaska I can understand why. So far I have seen snow that falls at an angle, like a side of a polygon. I have identified snow that is soft, and fluffy, and begins, and ends suddenly; a flurry. Some of the snow is really more like hail; icy, and hard. Then we have to examine the snow that sticks on the ground, not just falls from the heavens. Today was a slushy snow on the ground , and yesterday it was stomped into ice.
